"LOCATED IN THIS VICINITY, ONE OF THREE CAMPS ESTABLISHED
DURING THE CIVIL WAR TO ACCEPT PAROLED UNION PRISONERS
OF WAR UNTIL THEY WERE EXCHANGED FOR CONFEDERATE
PRISONERS SIMILARLY CONFINED IN THE SOUTH OVER THE
COURSE OF THE WAR. THOUSANDS OF SOLDIERS WERE HELD
HERE UNTIL THEY WERE RETURNED TO THEIR REGIMENTS OR
SENT HOME. MANY WHO DID NOT SURVIVE ARE BURIED IN
ANNAPOLIS NATIONAL CEMETERY."

This marker, dedicated on September 27, 2003, is located in the Old Parole Plaza Shopping Center on southbound Rte. 2 between West St. and Forest Dr.

James Kinsella was in hospital at Camp Parole from May 7, 1864, until June 12, 1864, when he rejoined the 2nd Corps. He was assigned to Company E, 69th Pennsylvania until August 20, 1864, when he was returned to Company C, 71st Pennsylvania. He was honorably discharged on October 26, 1864 at the expiration of his service.
